Teacher Mentoring Success!

Uh Oh!!! We don't know if we did the Teacher Mentoring Project 100% accurately but hey...we did it lol. Anyways... the name of our teacher is Ms. Lateefah Freeman, a Special Education teacher at Hollins Meadows Elementary in Alexandria, VA. Since she is a friend of (Quinn's) family, we both know her pretty well but t make things easier, we added her on Facebook. Although she is not a high school teacher, I believe she still benefited from this project and it helped keep her updated on a couple different type of media. Plus, as we talked about in class, teaching methods may be switched over via internet sometime in the near future so we did our best to teach her what we [now] know. Its ironic that we taught her how to use technology face-to-face for the most part. We also kept in contact via the telephone, Blackberry messaging, or Skype because she preferred to either see the steps or be walked through the process. We were very lucky to have her take a little bit of time to do this for us since we did ask her on a late notice right around report card season. The evening after we were told (in class) that we could choose any teacher, we immediately thought of Ms. Freeman to see if she was interested in being adopted because she always talks about wanting the newest technology or to be up on the newest media and we figured this to be the perfect opportunity to teach her and it was beneficial towards the both of us. Upon adoption, we asked if she knew how to use any of the forms of technology that we had gone over in class thus far. She told us she had just recently got a Facebook and wasn't too interested in learning about MySpace since people her age aren't really on there. We told her that we wanted to introduce her to Google Docs and Twitter as well as get her more familiar with Facebook. She laughed when we said Twitter becasue, liek most people, she had no idea that the site could be used as a search engine. We did the Google Doc tutoring face-to-face over the Thanksgiving Holiday because we were able to go to her school after it got it since we were on break and work with her for a while on this. She was not completely oblivious to this site, as they are trying to get more teachers to use it, but we made sure to show her how to go into documents and add others to edit.view and how to link websites among other useful tips. Ms. Freeman thought it was easier to do lesson plans through Google Docs because her and her colleagues can contribute and be aware of the schedule for each week. We were happy this mentoring project ended up going well being that it was a difficulty obstacle in the beginning of the year due to our lack of teachers following up with us. We were able to show a teacher how to knowledgeable about technology and hopefully she can help bring insight about what we taught her to people she knows.

Its The First Of The Month!

"Wake up Wake up Wake up, its the first of the month...."-Bone Thugs in Harmony Song

Today was our LAST global group presentation. We spent ALOT of time on this presentation because we decided to do a "World Rap Recap" about many of the social networking we've been doing.
I feel that our "Rap it Up" part of the presentation was very informative, creative and entertaining. Attached is the 2 PowerPoint's we presented, one we did along with the rap, and the lyrics to our rap.
I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did creating it. It was a new experience that went well because I feel that it made the 5 group member who did it so much closer given all of the time we spent together.
Until Next Time.....

Hi World!

Today was our second before last presentation! Its was pretty exciting given that I felt it was awesome and that we only have one more to go. Its getting really close to the end of the semester and even though I will miss the class it is pretty cool slowly coming to an end and completing all that we have done.
Posted below is our most recent presentation on Skype. I was pretty opposed to it before but it actually has proven to be pretty cool. One of our classmates also called a friend from the Netherlands and we got to to talk to her while also seeing Skype in action. Being that I am away from home I am definitely going to set my sisters, mom and close friends up on it so we can see more of each other while still being away.
Check it out and try it on your own!
Until next time....

11/10-Tech Presentation

Heyyy World!

So today our technology group presented on video and vodcasting. I felt like it was a strong presentation with just a bit of a slow start being that one of our presenters/group member has just a bit of a language barrier. Overall though I think our information and presentation went well. The class seemed to interact a lot with our findings and also could relate to a lot of what we were saying either on their own or due to this class. If your interested to know more or haven't been able to to check it out yet please due so. The link is listed below!

11/3

Today I took class notes. There was a very interesting video played today which is linked through the class notes.
I'm really starting to enjoy the global group presentations since they just find current event news and it is also very beneficial since i am able to keep up with not just our news but world news as well.

This class has been very confusing but finally this week I feel as if it has somewhat come together. After getting crushed on our first presentation I feel that my group really stepped up and that our presentation on Tuesday will definitely bring us out on top with a better grade an dIm excited to see how the class and our teacher will respond to it
